Video and film production has evolved immensely over time, and so has our understanding of the usage of light in the production of content. Advancement in technology has enabled us with the effective use of light in the video and film industry. The lighting industry has evolved to a level where it can meet the never-ending needs of the industry and can cater to all kinds of requirements. Lighting demand varies a lot depending upon the necessity of the scene or even the kind of content it is. For example, the lightning needed for an interview may differ a lot from the lighting required for a dramatic long shot taken outside at night time. Nowadays, the unique assortment of lighting equipment allows the production to create more impactful videos and films that require intricate cinematography.

Our understanding of the use of lighting in video and film production has improved many folds over time since the products that we are using have become far more user-friendly, compact, and compatible with the current set of demands. Initially, portability was a huge issue since most of the equipment was massive and fragile, and this made the process of video creation a tedious one. Since then the technology has drastically improved, and over time the lighting equipment has become lighter, compact, and superior making it possible to create content in such a manner it was not impossible before. Shots on the move have become relatively easy and less time-consuming, allowing the creators to put their vision into execution. Features such as silent operation, battery packs, and add-on features that can be attached to a camera make it possible for the creators to produce high-quality content with ease.

OSRAM, the inventor of HMI® lights has gradually improved its high-quality Studio Lamps with exciting innovations.

OSRAM HMI® DIGITAL’s line of single-ended metal halide lamps offers extremely bright light (of up to 100 lumens per watt), a color temperature that approximates daylight (6000 K), and a high color rendering index (> 90). Whether using analog or digital film, OSRAM’s HMI DIGITAL line has a lamp for your production. With single-ended metal halide lamps ranging from 200 W to 18000 W, HMI DIGITAL is suited for entertainment applications from film sets to theater stages

Movie effects

OSRAM HMI® STUDIO lamps shine twice brighter as a tungsten halogen lamp with similar wattage. These metal halide lamps provide a natural-looking light and reveal a set’s true colors with a high CRI of more than 90. With the patented doped UV-Stop quartz outer jacket, these lamps reduce the harmful UVB and UVC emissions by 99.9%. Compared to a traditional studio lighting setup with multiple tungsten halogen and metal halide lamp fixtures, using HMI® STUDIO in daylight fixtures makes separate halogen fixtures redundant. When paired with fixtures, HMI® STUDIO lamps deliver a warm tungsten color temperature. Film and TV productions can save time and become more cost-effective while benefiting from two times the brightness (compared to tungsten halogen lamps of a similar wattage).
